Dr. Maurice Emberga Typkever was born on the 2nd September, 1959 to the family of Tyokever Aga Makpam. He hails from Ikyurav-Tiev II Council Ward of Katsina-Ala Local Government Area od Benue State. He had his Primary Education at R.C.M primary school Awajir, Ishangev-Tiev in Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue State from 1966-1972 where he passed out with First School Leaving Certificate. The Young Maurice enrolled for his secondary education at the prestigious Saint Andrew’s Boy Secondary School Adikpo (SASSA) in 1974 and graduated in 1979, where he obtained his West African School Certificate (WASC) with six credits at a siting. The unquenching desire for western education took Dr. Maurice E. Tyokever to Murtala College of Arts, Science and Technology(MUCAST) Makurdi, now known as Benue State Polytechnic Ugbokolo, from 1979-1983 where he obtained the National Diploma(ND) in 1981 and Higher National Diploma(HND) in 1983. Following his quest for moe knowledge, Dr. Maurice Emberga Tyokever sought for and gained admission into the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi between 2001 and 2002 where he obtained a Post Graduate Diploma (Farm Management and Extension) with his continued zeal to pursue higher education, Dr. Maurice Tyokever obtained admission into the famous University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Following his hard work and deligence, he graduated with a Master of Science Degree (M.Sc.), Agricultural Economics 2003 and 2005. In order to qualify as a professional educator, he also studied and obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) at the Benue State University, Makurdi in 2006. Following his track record of academic performance and having considered knowledge as a fountain of largesse, Dr. Maurice Emberga Tyokever again sought for and obtained admission into the one and only University of Nigeria, Nsukka for the second time before 2008 and 2013. He graduated with Doctor of Philosophy(PhD) Agricultural Economics.
A seasoned administrator, Technocrat, Politician and Lecturer par excellence, Dr. Maurice Emberga Tyokever began his career at Ministry of Agriculture, Katsina-Ala and Lower Benue River Basin Development Authority during his industrial attachment days between 1980 and 1982. He served his mandatory one year National Youth Service Corps(NYSC) at Nnewi in Anambra State in 1984. After service to his fatherland, Dr. Maurice was employed by the Benue State Government to teach at the College of Education, Katsina-Ala in 1985, where he has worked till date holding various positions such as Examination Officer, SIWES Co-ordinator, Chairman and Membership od several Committees, Head of Department, Chief Lecturer, Member of Academic Board and Now Ag. Provost of the College.
In between his teaching duties, Dr. Tyokever has accepted and participated in State assignments such as Caretaker Chairman of the Social Democratic Party(SDP) for Katsina-Ala during the days of General Ibrahim Babangida as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He also served in the second tenure of Governor Gabriel Suswan as Special Adviser on Project Monitoring and Chairman, Benue State Project Implementation and Monitoring Committee.
Dr. Maurice Tyokever is a prolific writer and has authored four(4) textbooks, several journal publications and has presented academic papers at National and International Conferences. He has travelled far and wide and has visited countries such as Egypt, Turkey, Kenya and Israel.
Dr. Maurice Emberga Tyokever is married with four children.
