COMPUTER SCIENCE DEPARTMENT
- General Admission Requirements
- A senior secondary school certificate (SSCE), (WAEC or NECO) or GCE O’ level with passés in five subjects including English language, three of which must be at credit level at one sitting or five credits at two sittings. Two of the credits must be relevant to the course the candidate wishes to offer credit/merits in English language and/or mathematics may be required in some courses.
- A Grade II Teacher Certificate (TC II) with credits or merit in three subjects, two of which must be relevant to the course the candidate wishes to offer. Credit/merit in English language and/or Mathematics may be required in some courses.
- For candidates wishing to offer courses in vocational and technical education, RSA or city and guilds intermediate certificate with the federal craft training center with credit/merit in at least four subjects are acceptable or a NABTEB certificate.
- Associate ship certificate in education awarded by an approved institution in Nigeria or abroad, is also an acceptable qualification.
- Successful candidates in the Pre-NCE final examinations or interim joint matriculation board (IJMB) who took and passed in a selection examination organized by an accredited body would be qualified for admission.
- All candidates wishing to be considered for admission must enroll for and write the selection examination organized by an accredited body such as JAMB.
- It should be noted that some colleges may in addition to all above, administer their own elimination tests and/or interviews for some courses. This is legitimate.
- Additional Admission Requirements
Candidates seeking admission into NCE in computer science must possess at least one of the following qualifications.
- A senior secondary school certificate (SSCE), (WAEC or NECO) or GCE O’ level with passés in five subjects including English language, three of which must be at credit level at one sitting or four credits at two sittings. Two of the credits must be in any of Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics, Accounting, Business Methods, Chemistry and Economics
- A Grade II Teacher Certificate (TC II) with credits or merit in three subjects, two of which must be Mathematics and Integrated Science.
- Associate ship certificate in education awarded by an approved institution in Nigeria or abroad, with merits in Mathematics, Integrated Science, and any other relevant area.
- board, (IJMB) Examination.
- A satisfactory combination of any of (a), (b), (c) and (d) above.
NOTE: Any other qualification may be added by the commission from time to time.
- Graduation Requirements
Education – 36 Credits
Computer science – 36 Credits
Second Teaching Subject – 36 Credits
General Studies – 18 Credits
Teaching Practice – 06 Credits
Total – 132 Credits
The maximum credits for graduation should not exceed 132 credits.
- Teaching Practice
- Every student is required to complete successfully teaching practice for a period of 12 weeks. The credit earned is recorded in EDU 324. Teaching practice earns 16 credits.
- SIWES: a two phase SIWES is recommended: 16 weeks programme at the end of second session coded CSC 224 (1 credit, compulsory).
- Final Year Project
Every student is required to write and submit a project in a computer science and the credit is recorded under EDU 323. Project earns 2 credits. All topics should reflect computer education (teaching and learning).
